THE BRIEF

In the summer of 2001, we launched Howrey Bootcamp® with the goal of teaming the best law students with some of the most experienced litigators in the country in an intensive advocacy skills training program emphasizing hands-on experience, teamwork and partner-student interaction. Bootcamp attendees live the law by managing model cases, taking and defending depositions, arguing motions, conducting trials.

Our summer associates spend the first part of the summer program learning the inner workings of the firm, working with local attorneys, and becoming acquainted with major clients and cases. For a portion of the program, summer associates convene outside Washington, DC for an intensive clinic where they hone their trial skills in practice with the experts. Participants work with trial teams coached by senior associates as they prepare to argue discovery motions, take depositions, and put their client's case before a judge. Each exercise is critiqued by partners and judges, providing each participant with immediate, focused feedback. Throughout the program, summer associates participate in partner-led seminars and workshops on every key aspect of litigation, from how to take a deposition to preparing closing arguments, with partners sharing their personal stories and hard-won experience.

Today, Howrey Bootcamp's innovative approach has come to set the standard for associate recruitment and training. In fact, one reason for our shorter, more intensive program is that we encourage students to experience other more traditional programs during the rest of the summer. We welcome the contrast. This allows summer associates a broader range of options while providing us the opportunity to select candidates who best fit our own mission and vision.

If this sounds like the kind of program you've been looking for, we encourage you to explore this site to learn more about the unique challenges awaiting you at Howrey Bootcamp. And we encourage you to apply. We promise you a summer you'll never forget.

An important note on Diversity
Howrey is committed to providing opportunities for associates to develop their careers, and we recognize diversity as essential to the firm's competitive advantage. The Diversity Initiative offers firm wide minority programs and resources for professional advancement. Local programs cover areas such as client relationships, business development, mentoring and how to build visibility. The Diversity Initiative also sponsors the Washington DC and New York Minority Networking series, the Diversity Summit, and other conferences. Here, minority associates can meet colleagues and corporate counsel and can hear high-level speakers share success stories.
